Back to Basics

Well...sort of. I guess a "true basic" would actually be stickers, but this is pretty basic for me considering I have a Quickutz Revolution. I actually hand cut the lettering for this layout...haven't done that in a LONG time.

This layout is for another quick class at BPS, being taught by May Flaum. She gave us a "recipe" (just like a sketch) and set us to work. When I saw the sketch, I knew I wanted to use the three pics of the kids I had from my friend Jenn's wedding in 2005. I just had to remember where I put them (LOL!) and find the 4 other pics that were needed. It's definitely simple, but I love the way it turned out!

Hope everyone is having a good day. Thanks for stopping by!

NO OFFENSE BUT...

...if you have to preface whatever you're saying with "no offense but", there's a good chance you're going to say something offensive...

Just sayin'...

Scrapping Maniac!

What the heck is going on??? I spent all day Sunday scrapbooking (had a BLAST!) and I just did another layout...in paper no less!

What the heck is up with that? I'm supposed to be the digi girl...right?

Maybe the fact that Scott has promised me a laptop if I get rid of/donate/scrap through/pack in boxes all my goodies has been the motivation. Plus, there's a "Big Wig Crop" over at BPS and the daily assignments are just so "do-able". You should go check it out!

So...I know I said earlier that pink was the new green, but I've got to use my stash...and these pics needed green somehow:

For the assignment (from Lisa Damrosch) we had to use something soft (I used twill), something sparkly (I used a tiny gem on the crown), something sticky (I ran my QK letters through the Xyron), something with a scalloped/decorative edge (I used the paper on the left hand page), something clear (I used a transparency) and something from or inspired by the office supply store (I used the tag and a staple).

It didn't take me too long to put together after I picked up my prints. I had the idea in my head and then needed to get prints to match. Bonus points to anyone who can tell me who said, "Friends are the Adventures of Life."

Thanks for stopping by!

Pink is the new green...

Yep...you read it here first! Pink is my new happy colour...

It was lime green (or slime green as the kids liked to say) but now it's pink.

Fortunately, the pink I like (called Flamingo on the Dell site) is bright enough that it will go with all my lime green goodies...this makes Scott happy as he doesn't need to outfit me with all new scrapbooking goodies - LOL!

Where were you when the lights went out?

Today marks the day when 5 years ago the Eastern seabord was plunged into darkness and over 50 million people went without power - some for a few hours and some for days.

The image at left was taken from the Wikipedia website and shows what the Eastern Seabord looked like a few hours before the blackout occurred.

The image at left was taken from the Wikipedia website and shows the Eastern seabord about 7 hours after the blackout started.

Where were you???

I was just finishing up an appointment at the Hospital for Sick Children with Jonathan. We were in the underground parking lot (thank goodness we didn't get stuck in an elevator!) waiting in line to pay for our parking before heading home. All of a sudden, the parking garage was plunged into darkness. Almost as quickly, the generators kicked in and the emergency lighting system came on. A little humorous was the fact that just a few days before Scott and I had been talking about "I wonder what happens if the power goes out at Sick Kids?"

As we were rounding the corner to pay the attendant, I remember thinking that there must have been a power surge somewhere near the hospital and that they would have things up and running fairly soon.

It took nearly 1/2 an hour to get out of the underground. When we got up to street level, not only was Sick Kids with no power, so were the first few city blocks we traveled. I remember thinking that there must have been something wrong with the power grid for the downtown core or something along those lines.

Then the radio reports started coming in. All the stations turned to their sister news stations and it didn't matter to which station you were listening, you were getting the news.

I remember thinking just keep driving - north and west, north and west - and eventually you'll get home.

I remember moving Jonathan from the back seat to the front seat in his infant car seat (even though we had airbags) because it was the only way I could keep him entertained.

I remember stopping at a payphone to call my parents in Montreal to see if the same thing had happened to them.

I remember being "THAT" mother...the one who breast feeds her baby WHILE driving because you really couldn't stop anywhere.

I remember that it took me close to 3 1/2 hours to get home and hoping that the other two children weren't panicked (they were with Colin's godmother - our neighbour and friend).

I remember thinking I was going to have to lug Jonathan upstairs in his carseat (9 flights + parking levels) and being INCREDIBLY thankful that there was one elevator working and that we didn't have to wait TOO long to get upstairs.

I remember not being able to shower the next morning...well...you could if you were in to that whole polar bear thing and you didn't mind a cold shower.

I remember taking the kids to McDonald's for breakfast because they had their power back.

I remember spending the day at the scrapbook store where I worked because they had power AND air conditioning.

I remember thinking I was going to run out of gas looking for a gas station that a) had power and b) had gas. We found one and didn't have to wait for hours in line to fill up as they had JUST opened back up for business when we pulled in.

I remember having to throw out most everything that was in the freezer including close to 500 ounces of breast milk (my stash from when Jonathan was in for surgery) - that hurt.

I remember being thankful when the power finally came back on just over 24 hours later and we could finally start to get back to "normal".

So, where were you???

The good stuff!

Daiquiris anyone???

After going out for Blizzards (if you're reading from the West Coast in Canada, there's still time to help the Children's Miracle Network - got get a Blizzard, they're calorie free today!), we stopped for gas (cheap-ish today) and a bag of ice.

When we got home, I made a (almost) Strawberry Sunshine (like they do at Booster Juice) except we didn't have any orange juice. So, it ended up more of a strawberry-banana smoothie but the kids LOVED it!

Then it was on to daiquiris for Scott and me - YUM! I bought some strawberry daiquiri mix at Loblaws today and it is DELISH!

I think I need to get another bag of ice...

We interrupt the Vegas Chronicles to bring you...

MARGARITAVILLE!!!

We didn't make it here:

when we were in Las Vegas. We tried...but my gosh! There were just not enough hours in the day! I had to take a picture of the sign anyway...well...just 'cause.

But yesterday, Scott was on Red Flag Deal (a kick butt forum/community where members scope out deals and share them with everyone on the site) and discovered this:

was available at Costco for the paltry price of $149.99 which is 1/2 off the US price of $299.99. So, off we went to Costco to purchase the "Margaritaville Frozen Concoction Maker". Oh yeah!

Today, I went out to get supplies to use our new appliance! I'm waiting for Scott to get home to make the good stuff but the boys wanted slushies this afternoon, so I set to making those.

First, I put the juice into the blender part:

And then added ice to the tray in the top:

Oh yeah! This thing crushes/shaves the ice for you...gotta love that!

And then I hit the switch and this happened:

Yep! That's ice you see falling into the juice in the blender. How cool is that? And then it started whirring away and we had slushies!

All with just one push of a button...it's all automatic! And do you see those little fishies down at the bottom of our cool new toy? Those little fishies show you the progress of your beverage being made...when all the fishies are lit up, your drink is ready to enjoy - WOOHOO!!!

Must go buy a bag of ice tonight as the two trays that Scott made yesterday were quickly used up in making slushies this afternoon.

Can't wait to try mixing some good stuff later on tonight!

The Vegas Chronicles - Vancouver to Las Vegas

I think this is BY FAR the fastest I have EVER got an album started after a vacation.

San Francisco in January? Ummm...yeah...not done...

Montreal in March? Yep...got that one done...took me 3 1/2 months and gave it to DH on July 7th - PATHETIC!

Alaska in May? Haven't even begun to EDIT those pictures yet, let alone put them onto a page and start an album - YIKES!

Las Vegas is going much better...though I think I need to ask Scott to stop taking me away every two months so I can get caught up...yeah...right...like that's gonna happen - LOL!

I've got the pages saved in 12 X 12 (should I decide to go that route) and also in 8 X 8, so that the next time Loblaws or Superstore has a special on 8 X 10 (usually 49 cents) I can print them all up and have an album ready to go.

Today, I worked on the Vancouver to Las Vegas portion of the album. I used the same background colour because I expect to put the pages side by side.

Thanks for following along with the Vegas Chronicles!

The Vegas Chronicles - Toronto to Vancouver

I got a little bit of editing done...and even started on the Vegas scrapbook album - WOOHOO!!!

Here's our plane ride from Toronto to Vancouver.

Paper recoloured

Check back in for the next leg of the trip...for now, I need to catch up on ironing - UGH! Well...it's either that or Scott goes to work naked tomorrow.

Thanks for stopping by!

The Vegas Chronicles - T minus 8 hours to the wake up call

On Sunday night, Scott and I were putting the finishing touches on everything we needed to do in order to get ready to go to Vegas. He was doing his shaving thing (LOVE his smooth cheeks - grin) and buzzing his head.

I got this:

and was instantly reminded of this.

So, while I was tired when I got up the following morning, I was still smiling.

There was SO much to see and do in Vegas that I think it would overwhelm Blogger if I tried to do it all in one post. So...I'm going to get some editing done and then start a posting frenzy in the next couple of days.

Stay tuned!

From New York to Paris in 10 minutes

Well...the best laid plans and all that. Blah, blah, blah...

As I write, Scott and I are sitting in McCarran airport waiting for a flight we may not be able to board because of weight restrictions. Well...we did want to spend another night in Vegas - LOL!

I wanted to post some pictures, but they are sitting in my camera and I have no way to edit them anyway...so you'll just have to wait. Scott was good enough to drag his computer along for me, but he doesn't have PSE and since I have a Canon 20D, the images are MUCH too large to upload to Blogger without manipulating them first.

Pics will hopefully be up in the next few days. Hope you're all ready to be bombarded as there are over 300.

As the perfect end to our trip (does my man know how to do it right, or what?), we spent an hour and a half in the MIX lounge in THEhotel @ Manadalay Bay. There are AMAZING shots of the strip lit up. Unfortunately, you'll have to wait till we get home, but I promise you it will be worth it.

Loving and missing you from Vegas!
